Unvented hot water cylinders

An unvented pressurised cylinder is fed by the cold-water mains through a pressure reducing valve.

Once the water is heated it then sits in the pressurised cylinder. Once the hot outlet opens, the water comes out and the pressure is released. The hot water that has been released is then replaced by the cold mains entering through the cold feed to the cylinder in a continuous cycle. By alleviating the cold-water tank from the system, it allows for better flow rates and a high performing hot water vessel.

Installing an unvented cylinder allows for flexibility and can be powered through renewable energy sources.

Due to the hot water cylinders being pressurised, the vessels must be fitted by a G3 qualified installer and serviced annually. Our experienced engineers will ensure all aspects of the pressurised system are working efficiently and safely.

The risk of legionella bacteria growing within the cylinders largely depends on three key factors.

• The efficiency of the cylinder- Regular maintenance of hot water vessel must be carried out to ensure free-flowing water at the correct pressure. It is highly important that all hot water systems stay in line with G3 building regulations.
• The temperature of the water being stored- As experts in legionella compliance, we ensure all of our hot water vessels remain at a temperature of 60°C. Legionella bacteria multiplies in a temperature of 20°C to 50°C and can be fatal if airborne droplets are inhaled.
• Movement of the water when in the vessel- Stagnant water can become a breeding ground for dangerous bacteria such as Legionella. It is highly important that the size of the cylinder being installed is accurate.
